On Skimboarding
{Tuesday, December 21, 2010} 9:16 AM  It's a pretty good day. The weather is windy yet hot, like you couldn't decide whether to put on a tanktop or a sweater. There is a threat of rain but it seems unlikely or in our case, it doesn't really matter.A bamboo couch was set before the shoreline and an ice box beside it filled with liqour and beer. The wind and salt made everyone feel sticky and slightly ill but no one cares. In a way, there's a rush in that. Every prickle of salt on skin is a prickle of excitement, the slap of waves in one's back is a push. The discomfort just made eveyrone feel more alive. It's a pretty good day to feel free, away from the usual pressures of life. "Pretty fucking good day," I take a long drought from the can of cold beer in my hand then trembled slightly. The sweat and cold seeping through my bare back. "Damn right. You coming?" answered James. He's already drained his and is poised to pick up his board. "l'll catch up." I watch him join the others. A bunch of shirtless guys in board shorts with midget surfboards. They run while positioning the boards in mid-air, letting go just in time for them to run after it, jump and glide through the waters. Smooth. Hey, it might not be surfing but it's just as macho. I guess. Besides what do you expect in a place where there just aren't any gigantic waves? ..
